Join Native Voices as we celebrate the matriarchs in our lives. No one shapes us more in our communities than our women—our identities, our values, our tastes in food have all been cultivated by their strong hands and minds. And, in our Native communities, the list of those who rear us extends far beyond that westernized “nuclear family.” Native Voices invites you to short plays inspired by the warrior women we affectionately call “Auntie”!
Featuring plays by Lara Annette (Minnesota Chippewa Tribe and Red Lake Nation of Chippewa), Jennifer Bobiwash (Mississauga First Nation), Lee Cataluna (Native Hawaiian), Claude Jackson, Jr. (Gila River Indian Community), Alan Kilpatrick (Cherokee), and Maddox Pennington (Cherokee).

“Uncle Rooster” Ian Ira Rousso is recording his debut comedy album titled “Sorry Again” in New York on April 23rd and is on a mission to throw away the hour on an absolute high. Due to its unsuspected success and overwhelming demand following its first run, he is performing it in Los Angeles one final time before skipping town for a few weeks to run and record the hour and throw it away for good.
Sorry Again is a fun, joke-packed, story-filled exploration of being single deep in your thirties in the internet age and the banalities of hangups and nostalgia and was met with a standing ovation following its first run in January.
In recent years, Ian has been honing his craft in every room possible and has begun featuring and headlining. His authentic and absurdist style of storytelling has won over audiences all over the country and his unique path has lead him to the sets of Ex Rated with Andy Cohen currently streaming on Peacock and Hidden America with Jonah Ray on Seeso, now streaming on VRV.
Joining him will be a series of very special guests.
EARL SKAKEL (Adult Swim, I’m Dying Up Here, Comedy Central, World-Famous Comedy Store)
CAT ALVARADO (Comedy And Magic Club, Levity Live, Laughing Skull Comedy Festival)

What’s more important: writing the truth, or telling a good story? Based on the nonfiction book named “Best of the Year” by the Huffington Post, this highly entertaining, very funny new play follows young intern Jim Fingal, whose first assignment at an elite New York magazine is to fact check an essay written by a highly celebrated and cantankerous author. What Jim finds turns his world upside down. Thought-provoking, with zinging one-liners, The Lifespan of a Fact explodes into a hilarious slugfest between “facts” and “truth,” making it hard to imagine a play ever being more timely. Feb. 18 – April 2; Fountain Theatre, 5060 Fountain Ave. (at Normandie), Los Angeles, CA 90029; $25-$45; Pay-What-You-Want every Monday (subject to availability); (323) 663-1525; www.FountainTheatre.com.

Sometimes life throws us a curve ball. It’s been 20 years since the Red Sox lost their chance at the pennant when a Yankees fan ran onto the field and voided the final out, but the Dugan sisters are still mad about it. Kelly and Maureen live on the south shore of Boston, where they were known as “hard girls” back in the glory days of high school. Now they’re readying the house for a meeting with the daughter Kelly gave up for adoption back when she was 17. But when Geneva shows up, things don’t go exactly as expected. March 4 – March 26; Theatre 68 Arts Complex, 5112 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91601; $35; Tickets at www.theatre68artscomplex.com
